Islands are Not Forever
Project
Participative performance, Video-Essay
Date
May - June 2023
Place
Eindhoven
In collaboration with
Giulia del Gobbo, Yannis Androulakis
Islands are not forever takes inspiration from Gilles Deleuze’s quote in his text Desert Islands: “Humans can live on an island only by forgetting what an island represents”. It bloomed from a discussion about what does it mean to imagine dwelling on an island from a distance. We talked also about communication via telegraphic messages, about the attempts of reconstructing something of the past from its ruins and about carved landscapes.
The participative installation asked the audience, seated in circle around the video screen, to write on a paper band what the images inspire them. Then, we voiced out together these words to form a collective poem, with a improvised soundtrack played by me in the background.
